About The Event
In this workshop curated by National Award winning costumer designer Archana Rao, dive right into costume design for films and learn hand-on-skills for the critical processes like research and collaboration which go behind building a character’s personality and costumes in films.
The concepts covered in this workshop will be as follows:
1. Fashion vs Costume
2. The introduction into film history and costume
3. Costumes of different genres
4. Costume Design process - from screenplay to set
5. Creating a character and building a research bible
6. Creating culture and identity through costumes in film
7. The importance of colour palettes
8. Creating the costumes, styling and sourcing for looks
9. Fittings and finalisation of looks
10. Building a team and dynamics of the set
Post the workshop, you will be equipped to develop designs and costumers for films and a chance to showcase your work to Archana.
Participants will be required to bring their iPads/Laptops.
The fee includes stationary and refreshments during the workshop along with a meal post the session.
About the Host:
Hyderabad based fashion designer Archana Rao takes inspiration from art in all its forms. After graduating from NIFT, she pursued an AAS Degree from Parsons School of Design, New York. Studying and working in New York laid the groundwork, which would later set the tone for the brand aesthetic. Her label, ArchanaRao debuted in 2012 with Lakme Fashion Week, India under the gen-next category. In the year 2013, Archana Rao won the 'Vogue India Fashion Fund' with cash grant and mentorship from Vogue India. She debuted her collection at Capsule, New York in 2016 and was also one of the finalists of 2018 Vogue Talents X FAD International, an initiative by Vogue Italia, held in Mumbai.
She forayed into costumer designing and won the National Award, costumes for period drama, Mahanati in 2019.
